Presumptive Eligibility

Presumptive Eligibility

Presumptive Eligibility, also know as PE, is a free temporary insurance program for low income women who are pregnant, or think they are pregnant. It will pay for pregnancy testing and prenatal care for up to 60 days. An application for Medi-Cal must be completed to continue financial coverage for prenatal care. PE is offered through State approved doctors and clinics in the community who accept Medi-Cal.

All of Community Medical Centers, Inc. (CMC) clinics are approved clinics for Presumptive Eligibility.

Presumptive Eligibility is available to any woman who:

  • Thinks she is pregnant
  • Lives in California
  • Does not have health insurance
  • Has a family income at or below 200% of the Federal poverty level

Services covered by PE include:

  • Pregnancy tests
  • Exams
  • Medications
  • Lab tests
  • Sonograms
  • Genetics testing
  • CPSP (Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program)
  • Other medical services

Services not covered by PE include:

  • Birth control
  • Hospital care
  • Delivery
